Instructions:
-
Set the installation
.EXE file on the CD to Win95 compatibility mode, and that allows you to install the game into your HD...restart
comp if it says to do so.
-
Next you need to get a modified .DLL file released by
Westwood Studios. And you can download that file HERE.
Zip file (14.5kb)
-
After
downloading the file, unzip it. You'll find the .DLL file and
a readme file. Just follow the instruction on where to place
that file.
-
Finally,
set your game compatibility to WIN95 and your all set to go.
To set the compatibility mode, simply right click on the game
"shortcut" icon, click on "properties",
then click on the compatibility tab in the properties window.
Click the Run in compatibility mode check box. Select Windows
95 Compatibility Layer from the dropdown menu. Click OK. This should work for
the original Red Alert and C&C Gold games.
Alternative
instructions for original Red Alert in WINXP:
These
instructions were provided by Blkwaltz3, and says he got his
original Red Alert game to run on WINXP using them.
Step 1: Put the disc in and let AutoPlay come up (if enabled). Close the
AutoPlay and go into your explore menu (Right-Click START>EXPLORE).
Step 2: Select the CDRom drive the RA1 CD is in and the files on the CD
should be visible. Now, Highlight AutoPlay and RIGHT Click then select
PROPERTIES.
Step 3: In the PROPERTIES Menu, select the COMPATIBILITY TAB and in the
"Make Compatible With" box, place a check mark and select WINDOWS 95.
Step 4: Close the properties box and double click AutoPlay. Let the
installer finish and there you go!
