Multiplayer coop tactic: (Multi-team)
If you are soviet, and you have an allied player on your team, build a
barracks in his base right away. When you build a crazy Ivan and put it in
one of his IFVs you have a deadly bomb that is about twice as powerful as a
Libyan truck, 300 credits cheaper, faster, and takes 2 harrier shots to be
destroyed instead of just one. Be warned, the best defense against this is
for the other side to send harriers (or even better, black eagles) into your
base to blow them up in your base before you send them out, causing massive
damage to you. Counter this by loading up the crazy Ivan in the IFV only at
the edge of your base, and sending them out immediately. This strategy also
has another advantage over using Libyan trucks: the enemy never hears "My
Truck is loaded" when you prepare this attack. (when an enemy is Libyan,
just build a harrier or two and keep them flying around near the enemy base.
when you hear "my truck is loaded", just go in and attack with the
harriers).
I got this from the RA2 manual: (Allies)
If you are Allies: Get a spy and send it into another Allies battle lab to
receive the chrono commando, this unit is great. A massive machine gun with
awesome power and C4's to detonate buildings just like that. Also the unit
chronospheres itself to anywhere on the map. The further away the target,
the longer it take for him to phase in. My trick is to chrono him just out
side the enemies base, far away enough to be out of reach of any defenses,
wait until he has fully phased in and then, send him in to detonate a
building (e.g. construction yard). He will almost phase in immediately and
blow the building up.
Get a spy and send it into a Soviet battle lab and get the PSI Commando.
This unit is basically Yuri, but with C'4s.
Boomer Trouble? (Anti Yuri)
-If you hate Yuri's boomer rushing in the multiplayer games with others,
turn the money starting to the lowest (5000) this really makes it impossible
for boomer rushing, and a slight advantage for the allies and soviets vs.
Yuri.
Squid vs. Squid: (Soviets)
If you are playing as the soviets and the map demands that you fight by sea,
you must have squids to defeat other soviet squids. Send your squids in
before you send any subs or ships. If there are enemy squids in the area
then squids will fight squids while your ships make their way to the enemy
base. If squids get to your ships then they're going to Titanic (deep six)
unless you can somehow magically gain the ability to make dolphins. They are
one of the few units that can effectively deal with the squids. Bottom line,
if you're a Soviet don't head out into battle against a Soviet enemy without
taking along some squids.
Sneaky Chrono trick: (Allies)
It is possible to chronoshift a unit into a unit. All you have to do is to
find a badly damaged of your own, and chronoshift it into a stationary enemy
tank (I mean teleport it on to the enemy tank) and they will self annihilate
each other. Warning! this does not work on buildings. One more thing, you
use the same method on enemy instead of using your own unit to do the
annihilation (since you can chronoshift enemy units as well) use one of the
enemy unit instead to do the dirty work.
Allied Destroyers: (Allies)
If your enemies base is an island or near the water, you can have an
advantage over him by attacking with destroyers. I just played a mission and
I found it very effective. Whenever a sub tries to attack your destroyer,
press x to scatter and it wouldn't hit..... elite destroyers are the best.
But don't forget to accompany it with Aegis Cruisers to protect it from
enemy Dreadnoughts. Your enemy will be very confused and try to build a
navy, but you could surround him before he does.... in a sentence "CONTROL
HIS SEAS" HE SHALL FALL!
Anti Engineer: (Multi-team)
Many people like to weaken the enemy very early by engineer rushing here's
how to counter it.
Combating the Engineer Rush: Just as you may be planning to use an Engineer
rush against your opponent, he is likely to be planning the same thing
against you. Several things you can do to defend against it. First, place
walls around your Construction Yard since this is by far your most important
building. Second, place infantry inside and outside your base and put them
on guard mode. And use sentry guns or pill boxes as additional defenses.
The TANK rush - Building mass units: (Multi-team)
In the original Red Alert, tank rushing was the main strategy used in the
game. And although in Red Alert 2 there are ways to combat this, building
lots of tanks still works. The idea is to take your group of tanks and
concentrate all the firepower on one target at a time. But no matter what
you build, weather it be Tanks, Air units, Naval units, whatever...build
lots of them and attack with all of them. Build as much as you can. Never
stop building. You can never have too much! The object of the game is to
overwhelm your opponent. I know the best country to control tank rushes is
France, if you always have a cannon ready then you can build it where the
rush will take place, usually the rushers never go right for the base from
their, they either do waypoints, or go little by little towards your base.
Defense against the tank rush: (Multi-team)
In multiplayer online games, don't concentrate so much on building base
defenses. It's better to build a War Factory and crank out tanks, etc. They
serve two purposes. They can be used first for base defense while your
building up your base. Then once you get your base going good, you use them
for offensive measures for attacking. The idea is when he uses the tank rush
against you, you in turn use your tanks for defense. If you defeat his rush
and have lots of tanks left over, go after his base before he can recoup
from his losses. In other words, don't give him the chance to rebuild his
army.
Also, use your Infantry for added defenses. They are cheap to make, and when
grouped or garrisoned into civilian buildings are deadly against enemy
tanks. Just target one unit at a time with your group to be more effective.
If you like to play with the Allies, choose America. That way you'll get the
paradrops that deliver eight GIs.
Special Tip for Allied Players: (Allies)
Don't use prism towers early for defense. Why? They are expensive, take a
lot of time to build, use substantial energy (Power), have a slow shooting
rate, are mainly effective in numbers and are a passive weapon! Which means
that you don't have a proper counter attack force if you heavily invest in
Prism towers early in the game. Remember, the threat of a counter attack is
everything to hold off experienced rushers. It's better to use the cheap,
fast building pill boxes and GI's to distract tank fire while Prism tanks
with Grizzly tanks in front do the real damage and get promoted fast.
Using Cliffs: (Multi-team)
Use the cliffs to your advantage! If your ever on a cliff make double sure
your units are on the cliff edge and can fire down at your enemies why?
because the units below the cliffs can not hit you at all. I know I've
played the map Mount Olympus a dozen times and building 4-5 prism towers on
top of the cliffs shooting down at the helpless victims is one of the best
strategies RA2/YR has to offer to you people, use the cliffs!
Use money wisely: (Allies)
If you have the money I totally suggest that you build allot of dolphins if
the map is based on a navy, dolphins in large numbers can do allot of damage
to boomers, and subs including every other navy unit in the game.
Anti-Tank Rush With Paratroops: (Multi-team, mainly Allied)
This tactic is great for beating early tank rushes. First off, be America
because you'll need the paras. Build up your defense (don't bother with pill
boxes, just have prism towers). After the tank rush both his and your forces
will be pretty mashed. By this time you should send paras into his base and
destroy his refinery, barracks and war factory (they die the quickest). If
he was spending all his money on tanks, he shouldn't have a good defense and
will die easily. I've had many people surrendering or disconnecting from
this. NOTE: This only works if the player isn't good. This tactic can be
countered by using dogs (but if you drop them away from the base as opposed
to directly on it, then you should be ok as they won't be killed as they
land).
More Paradrop attacks: (Multi-team, mainly Allied)
This tactic should only be used if you have a good base defense. First you
have to be America. Then find out all of your enemies ore fields. Drop all
your paradrops just below the fields. Once you have about 4 drops move onto
the ore and deploy them all. (Note: it is always good to have both the
airborne and the airdrop so if there is a civilian airport capture it and
protect it well) Keep sending all your drops there. Watch out for terror
drones as those will be your only enemy. Once there economy is gone attack
with all your gi's and units. (I found that playing a brutal computer only 5
drops or 2 duel drops took care of most of there base).
Vive Le France!: (Anti-France, using soviets)
I am sure you have all fought people in the past who play as France and like
to surround their base with Grand cannons, I've met a few myself and find it
impossible to break through because they have gone for all out defense,
leaving the game a stalemate. There are a few ways to deal with Grand
Cannons, for the soviets, you can send in an army of Kirovs and bomb them
out, or if they have far too much defense, build up a huge force of
Apocalypse Tanks, but split them into a few groups, then Iron Curtain One
group and send them in, letting them take the hits from the Grand Cannon,
while you push your other forces up and another way to destroy them. If you
are without an Iron Curtain, the above suggestion still works, but I would
create a few more tanks and spread them out a bit more, make their job as
hard as possible :-)
Anti-Engineer 2: (Allies)
If you can't stand engineer rushes build pillboxes all around, this actually
helps with tanks too, they it takes a long time to kill one and build
another right after it.
Killo El Comp: (Multiplay comp. stomp tactic)
In the easier comp stomps you can get away with playing for yourself and not
helping the other team members. When playing the harder comp stomps online
(e.g. 3 v 5 Brutal AI) you have to work as a team. Normally all the AI
players will attack one human player, trying to put him out the game first.
I that person gets killed, then the AI moves on to it's next target. So it
is in your interest to help the person being attacked. Drop your
paratroopers in his base if you have them. Build an extra prism tower, grand
cannon, tesla coil in his base. Another good idea is to have extra buildings
in his base. You could have a refinery in his base so you can harvest
another area. A barracks as a back up building in case the other one is
destroyed, that way you can also build men in his base to help him. Another
good idea is to combine bases, this can only be done on certain maps
through. You all have a safe path to the spot where you are going to combine
bases. There has to be enough space there for everyone and there has to be
enough ore for everyone. An example of a good place to combine bases is the
middle of Heck Freezes Over. There is gems in the middle and a lot of ore in
the surrounding area. There is plenty of space and everyone has a safe path
there. If you have combined bases then it is a lot easier to share defenses
and units.
I Beat 5 Brutal AI's Alone With This: (Allied-Soviets)
Soviets - The simplest tactic when you are Soviets is the apocaylpse tank
rush build up your economy and make sure that you have enough defense to
survive grizzly tank rushes / rhino tank rushes. Also, make sure that your
air defense is good enough to withstand the Kirov Tactic (Soviet Brutal Comp
always sends Kirovs in groups of 3) you will need approximately 5 flak
cannons and a few flak tracks/flak troopers. Once your defense is
satisfactory just build 10 apocalypse tanks then a couple of support units,
then you will destroy the enemy base easily.
Allies - This is the best way to beat both Soviet and Allied Brutal AI Build
5 harvesters to being with you will have to fend off one initial assault
whilst doing this..once your harvesters are all built your economy will be
excellent build 1 spy,12 harriers, tanks ( mirage tanks are best ) and then
prism tanks. Send the spy into the enemy ore refinery in order to allow you
to do this. ncer your 12 harriers are ready you should know where the enemy
base is ( spysat ) if the enemy is allied and has a gap generator covering
his base then you will just have to fly over it and uncover it and then hit
the mcv > use your harriers to destroy his mcv then send in prism tanks
backed up with mirage tanks for protection brutal AI never builds service
depots so they will no longer be able to build structures take out power
plants and ground defense with your prism tanks, then destroy the war
factory and the barracks now just finish the enemy off.
The Quick Anti-Rush: (Multi-Team)
The quick rush is the favourite of an accomplished player so its vital that
you stop it. Soviet sides have a distinct advantage early on in the game as
their miners collect $1000 as opposed to the allies miners collecting $500
(Allied miners have an advantage in late game as they can chrono warp back
to base saving lots of time). Many Soviet rushers simply build as many rhino
tanks as they can before their money runs out and then attack your base
usually aiming for your mcv in order to stop these quick rushes you can do
the following (remember, if you stop an early rush then you have an
advantage over your enemy) :-
Wall your mcv this will result in the enemy taking approx 25 seconds more
when destroying your mcv. Build base defences - e.g. prism towers and tesla
coils 2 or 3 should be enough. Build anti-tank units - e.g. terror drones -
send a group of these at the enemy and it should make things a hell of a lot
easier for you. Use everything you have - make sure u use harriers and war
miners even if they make seemingly little difference. Attack him en route
you should have seen his tanks leaving his base if you scouted properly you
can use Rocketeers, Harriers and terror drones to injure his tank attack
before it even reaches your base.
Night Hawks: (Allied)
This attack is useful against an opponent who has little or no air defense :
you can either build 5 engineers and load them into the nighthawk or a few
engineers and a Tanya. I recommend the latter. In order for this tactic to
work to its full potential I suggest that you build the nighthawk and load
it underneath a gap generator - so as the enemy will have no idea what you
are doing...
Once loaded you have to sneak the nighthawk into the enemy base - remember,
nighthawks are invisible to enemy radar; so the only way that the enemy can
notice them is
When they are stationary (on the ground)
By actually seeing them on his screen
The best way to avoid the enemy seeing your nighthawk is to avoid flying it
in parts of the map where he may be looking - e.g. the space directly in
between your bases.
Once near the enemies base unload the nighthawk away from sentry
guns/pillboxes and from air defenses ( nighthawks will be shot down by
patriots/flak cannons very quickly ). Once the nighthawk has landed unload
straight away - no send your engineers into the most important enemy
buildings - then sell them ( if you are France then dump a Grand Cannon down
inside his base :D ).. Tanya should take care of any dogs/infantry that
attempt to attack your units.. if you manage to get rid of your enemies most
important structures then you have a large advantage..
Need Money Quick? (Yuri)
Some of you still don't know this but if you need money, and allot of it,
build allot of slave miners and one grinder, mutate the many slaves into
brutes then send em into the grinder for allot of doe.
Excellent Air Defense (Allied)
When you have a elite AEGIS cruiser, it can launch multiple missiles. If you
press the "S" key or the default stop button when you have a group of them
selected and then command them to fire all at once, you will see instant
damage. This is effective when attacking slow moving units such as the Kirov
and transport plane.
Best Navy: (Allied)
The best navy I figure which is effective and usually affordable is building
this:-
3 destroyers
5-6 dolhpins
3-4 carriers
2 aegis cruisers
Always have destroyers since they can hit land units well and are effective
against conscripts and Gi's.
Isolation (Allied & Soviet)
If your playing as the allies and want all the bridges around you to blow up
and be all alone simply make on navy seal and make a way point for him to
kill each bridge at the repair hut. This is better than taking your time for
tanks to force fire an even for them to fall in which really sucks. In fact
its the only way to kill a bridge with speed. For the soviets use tanks good
if apocalypses
The Best way to make your enemy angry is by making him surrender his base
sending his MCV packing. Say your rushing in a 2 vs. 2 game, you build a few
tanks to rush to a enemy, it works, he has his MCV run to allies base ASAP,
but the trick is to always have a terror drone, the easier it is for a
terror drone just to have to slip inside an MCV then your tanks to go into
hostile areas to hunt it down.
Ivan Usage (Soviet)
Crazy Ivan can also take out bridges by planting a bomb on the repair hut.
If you playing as the soviets. Also if you have extra infantry such as dogs
that are useless place a bomb and send the dog close to a pack of tanks or
men, it brings damage.
Engineer & Dog Rush (Most Effective against AI's) (Allied & Soviet)
This only works if the enemy base is nearby. Build 5 or more doggies as soon
as you build a barracks (Set the unit count to 0), Set the dogs to guard
mode in front of the enemy barracks. If it is clear with no GIs or
conscripts, send some engineers to take their MCV and other buildings.
However, you run the risk of running out of cash if the rush fails.
Never Ever (Soviets)
Never ever build a nuclear reactor while playing as the soviets in a
multiplayer game, chances are they also focus on blowing it up and in the
end its going to suck for you when it does blow. Just make allot of telsa
reactors whenever power is needed, have you ever noticed that the AI tends
to do this? Well you now know why. if battling the AI you can build one due
to the fact the AI usually never goes for it until near the end.
Some people said this was the best rushing tactic (Soviet)
Deploy Con Yard
Build Power
Build Barracks and two dogs to scout
Build Refinery
Build War Factory, a Terror Drone, a harvester and non-stop tanks
Build Refinery, Sell Refinery, etc etc....
Kill him
How to destroy the special units (Multi Team)
Special Unit Counter Attack
Paratroopers -Flak Track, Flak Trooper, IFV (Seal inside)
Black Eagle -Flak Track, IFV, Patriot Missile, Flak Cannon
Sniper Flak -Track, IFV (Men inside it)
Grand Cannon -Rocketeers, Harriers, Kirov, V3 launcher
Tank Destroyer -Tesla Trooper, Rocketeer, Deployed GI
Tesla Tank -Rocketeer, Harrier, Kirov
Terrorist -GI, Conscript, IFV, Flak Track, Flak Trooper
Demo Truck -Prism Tank, Apocalypse Tank, Rocketeer, Harrier
Desolator Deployed -V3 Launcher, Rocketeer, any Tank, IFV with Seal inside.
Basic Base Building (Multi Team)
When starting your base you need to keep in mind a few basic rules to go by.
Structures that produce units like the Barracks and War Factory should go up
front. Your Ore Factory should be up front also due to the Ore Miners coming
and going all the time. If structures like these are located in the middle
or rear of your base, units have to negotiate through your other buildings
and lose valuable time in either getting to the battlefield or mining the
ore. All your other important structures then go to the rear. As far as
using wall, I do not recommend you wall up your entire base, but rather
place walls around a few select buildings such as your Construction Yard and
Special Weapons Structures like the Nuclear Silo or Weather Control Device.
Just want to note that walls will also keep enemy spies or engineers from
penetrating the structure.
NOTE: Many people who lose because of important buildings that are in the
main passage toward their base. Some other important tips are:-
Do not build all your Power Plants in one area of your base. If the enemy
launches a Super Weapon against your base, you could end up losing all your
power in one hit. Needless to say, this would be devastating and leave you
in a very vulnerable state. Instead keep your power spread out a bit. It's
also a good idea, if you have the recourses, to build a second base
(preferably hidden from the enemy), and build additional power plants just
in case your main base comes under heavy attack.
Finally, don't forget to build base defenses to combat both enemy ground and
air units. Air defenses are especially important in later game missions.
Always make sure your most valuable structures are covered by both air and
ground defenses.
SKULLS OF DEATH! (Soviet)
This strategy is excellent for internet battles in that it confuses the
enemy before they can even act. Unfortunately, this strategy is slightly
expensive.
Requirements:-
4x Libyan Demolition Trucks Substitutes: Crazy Ivan I.F.V, Chrono Ivan
I.F.V, Cuban Terrorist I.F.V
1x Amphibious Transport
1x Fully Charged Iron Curtain
Sufficient Power
1x Crazy Ivan Substitutes: Chrono Ivan
Procedures:-
select a Demolition truck and Amphibious trans. and move them to another
area.
select Crazy Ivan and place dynamite on the Demo. truck, then place the
truck in the transport
repeat this to the other Demolition trucks.
once completed relocate the transport just outside the enemy's defense
range.
then apply the "Iron Curtain" on the transport.
select the transport and move it into the enemy's base (preferably next to
the Construction Yard)
deploy the frick'in thing and relax.
Hidden Surprises (Allied & Soviets)
An excellent defense against engineers capturing your buildings (especially
against human opponents) is to place your pill boxes or sentry guns behind
your buildings or behind trees. Your ore refineries have smoke stacks
protruding above them that you can use to hide pill boxes behind. Your war
factory can have a pill box at the rear of it, if you place them right, your
opponent won't see them and think you have a weak spot to rush in engineers,
that is, until they all get mowed down by an unseen defense, and often these
defense won't show up, even with show hidden enabled! There nothing more fun
then making an enemy think you have no pill boxes or sentry guns and
watching him waste expensive troops rushing your base.
If you are playing with super weapons and the ore level on the map is really
low a good idea is to always build a chronosphere and then when its ready
teleport their miners into the water or to another base where you know they
would die.
Garrisoning Tip (Multi Team)
When sending troops to garrison a civilian building, send them into the
building, then use waypoints and click on another building. When the first
building is destroyed, they'll automatically fall back to the second
building.
Stopping the thunderous rush (Allied & Soviets)
The best way to stop a soviet tank rush is to garrison gi's in a building,
but if a building isnt nearby for defense, there are other ways. If you
scatter and deploy your gi's around your base, they can be effective because
they are hard to run over. Also, have some grizzlies at the front to keep
the rhinos from running you over. rocketeers are expensive, but if the enemy
doesn't rush with flaks, they can be very useful. If you are soviet against
a soviet rush, hit em hard with terror drones, which cost only 500 and can
be mass produced quickly. Another good anti tank unit is the tesla trooper,
who is highly effective and cant be run over.
Before my RA2 CD broke I played a match against a rusher in the map Hammer
and Sickle, with his soviet tanks he rushed at me. The location was the
upper connecting bridge, but little did he know that once his tanks were all
running at me on the bridge I had a seal at the end. By blowing the bridge
and watching his tanks fall into the watery depths he gave up soon after.
Lesson: Rushers beware!
Allies
For an almost fool proof Engineer Rush for the allies, train 5 Engineers (or
3 Engineers and 2 Spies if you want more tech.), 15 GI's, build 2 NORMAL
tanks (Resist the urge to use Prism Tanks), 2 Nighthawk helicopters and 1
hovercraft. Put the Engineers in one Nighthawk and fill the other with 5
GI's. At the same time load the tanks and the other 10 GI's into the
hovercraft. Find a point on the map that is on a straight line path with a
safe spot near the enemy base, send the Nighthawks and hovercraft there.
Once they all arrive, send in the Nighthawks to the safe spot you found.
Make sure you have a Prism Tower and a power plant ready to go at this
point. On the arrival of the Nighthawks deploy the one with GI's first.
Deploy the GI's. Next send in the hovercraft. If the coast is clear deploy
the Engineers and send them ALL for a power plant or something with very
little value and defense on it. Once you get that done build the Prism Tower
and power plant, back the Engineers off, get the GI's in and start another
Prism Tower. By now the hovercraft has arrived (if it hasn't you chose a bad
spot and you're probably screwed), so deploy it and defend you power plants
with your life. Don't get overly aggressive because it will kill you. Make
sure you have a good strong hold going with very little resistance before
you build a War Factory and Barracks. Make them your primary buildings and
pump out Prism Tanks, Tanya's and GI's like there's no tomorrow. One of the
little Paradrop airports or being America really comes in handy for this
famous and deadly attack. A constant supply of troops can be your saviour.
When you're in firmly get the Prism Towers to take out ground defenses and
tanks. Then advance with your GI's to clear out footmen. Spy then capture
the enemy War Factory, Barracks, Battle Lab and Con Yard to get some nice
little units. Blow up everything else if you want. By the end you'll have a
BIG base with a lot of defense and a crap load of veteranized units
(especially GI's), and that would be it.
Soviets
The Soviet Engineer Rush is quite a bit harder but goes the same way as the
Allied version except use 2 Hovercrafts instead of 2 Nighthawks and 1
Hovercraft. Make more Conscripts (about 20 or so) and send 10 with the 5
Engineers in one Hovercraft. If you're Iraq use about 7 Desolators to go
with the tanks. When you capture your first building build one Tesla Coil
and about 3 Sentry Guns. Keep that ratio of 1:3 up cuz the number of Coils
you have doesn't matter and the Sentries can take more. When you get a
Barracks going build Tesla Troopers and Flak Troopers not Conscripts.
Otherwise do it just like the Allies
La Resistance:
France is worth playing as allot of you might not think so. I once played a
map with 2 ways in the enemies base here's what you could do and what I did:
Use the French MCV to put up a hidden base near your enemy's early on in the
game. Put up GCannons (backed up by pillboxes and patriots) and shell their
base. This way the ore will run out for your enemy and he'll have nothing to
do but cry.
Fast Promotions:
Grizzlies are very bad against other tanks. So to make up for this (get them
elite quick) use them to mow down enemy troops. Tell them to force move on
infantry until they become Elite. Even if they don't you can get rid of mass
groups of infantry quickly. This also kills almost all infantry rushes.
HINT: don't go for Tesla Troopers because they can't be crushed.
