Westwood Studios Announces CNC: Yuri's Revenge
LAS VEGAS, April 13, 2001 - Following the phenomenal success of Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™ 2, Westwood Studios™ announced today it will release the official expansion pack this fall, Command & Conquer Yuri's Revenge. The PC CD-ROM mission disk will be part of the EA GAMES™ brand from Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS).

Yuri's Revenge is the largest expansion pack in Westwood's history, adding to the real-time strategy game new Allied units, new Soviet units, new single-player campaigns, new multiplayer features, new co-operative campaigns, an hour of filmed story sequences, and an entirely new side: an Army lead by the mysterious psychic warrior, Yuri.

In the original Red Alert 2, Yuri was a controllable unit on the Soviet side. For the mission disk, Yuri breaks from the Soviets and launches his own bid for world domination through psychic technology. Players will take command of a time-traveling task force and go back in time to unravel Yuri's evil plot.

"We were thrilled with the success of Red Alert 2 and really wanted to build on the gameplay for the expansion pack, rather than just add missions," said Mark Skaggs, executive producer of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. "This is the largest, most involved expansion pack in Westwood's history, and we're bringing some really exciting gameplay to our fans."

Key Features of Command & Conquer Yuri's Revenge:

  • Three sides - In multiplayer mode, the player can choose to play any of three sides: the Allies, Soviets, or the new faction: Yuri's psychic army.
  • Fourteen new solo campaign missions - Players will chose to lead either the Allies or the Soviets against the new global threat, Yuri.
  • Ten new co-op campaign missions - New campaigns to fight with a partner over a LAN or the Internet.
  • New units and tech buildings - Thirty new units, vehicles and tech buildings, which present players with new strategic challenges and opportunities.
  • Exotic Locales - Players fight and take control of exotic cities all over the earth, and beyond, such as San Francisco, Sydney, Hollywood, Seattle, London, Cairo, Transylvania and even the moon.

Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Goes Gold
Highly-anticipated war game set to hit shelves on October 25

LAS VEGAS, October 5, 2000 - Set off the fireworks. Pop the cork on the champagne (or sparkling cider, for those of you underage). Visit your favorite software retailer immediately and give him a big hug. Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 is done. It is gold. Version .24 has been pounded on, tested, re-tested, polished, and thrice blessed by two test depertments and the dev team. That beautiful disc, the result of almost two years of blood, sweat and almost toxic level of caffiene consumption, was then sent away to the manufacturing plant.

And ironically, the disc that was dubbed gold was actually silver, but who really cares?

What happens now? Several silver discs are made from the gold disc. Those silver discs are then tested to make sure the duplication process works. If the silvers pass, then the duplicating machines will start cranking out copies of the game. Then, the folks at the factory drop them into boxes. The boxes are sealed, put into cases of 24, and stored in a warehouse. This process will take about three weeks because thousands upon thousands have to be made. Then, on October 24th, those boxes will be loaded onto trucks and airplanes and delivered to stores across the continent.

Then, you go pick up your copy and finally get to play. As we’ve said before, the best way to make sure you get a copy on Day One is to pre-order or sign a call list at your local games dealer.

After that, we’ll see you on Westwood Online. We here at Westwood can’t wait to play actual fans. We’re a little weary of beating up on each other.

"We wanted to eliminate all the rumors and give the fans a hard date," says Laura Miele, Westwood's vice president of marketing. "They'll be able to buy it at most stores on Oct. 25. Of course, the best way to ensure getting a copy will be to pre-order it."

Don't believe the rumors: Red Alert 2 set for mid-October release

LAS VEGAS, August 4, 2000 - You’d think the Soviets evil propaganda machine was hard at work on the goal of frustrating Red Alert fans and confounding our best efforts to keep good info out there. One news site erroneously prints that we’re done with the game and a minor hurricane of message board activity occurs. Now another “insider source” revealed the quite inaccurate info that we’re releasing RA2 on October 31, which angered all the confused people who thought that maybe they were getting the game next month.

Here is the truth…

We plan on finishing the game in mid-September, when a gold master disc will be printed and sent to the duplication plant. It will take about a month to burn all the CDs, put them in boxes, put them on trucks and airplanes and get them in stores. It’s a worldwide release, which makes things even more complicated.

You can expect to see Red Alert 2 on sale around the world in mid-October. We’re not going to put an exact date on it quite yet as there are a few too many variables. We are confident it will be out well before October 31, and not too far after October 1.

And keep in mind that even though the dev team is slaving away day and night, some evil bug might pop up and complicate matters. It hasn’t happened yet with Red Alert 2, but you never know.

Keep watching this site for official news. If you have any questions about Red Alert 2, visit the forums area. We’re always there answering fan questions and seeing what’s on your mind.

In the meantime, while you are waiting for Red Alert 2, download Nox Quest, the free cooperative multiplayer enhancement for Nox. It’s a blast, and if you already own Nox, it’s free.

Westwood Studios Announce Command & Conquer Red Alert 2
Sequel to three-million-selling strategy game to hit shelves this fall

LAS VEGAS, April 27, 2000 - Wielding strange new technologies and hungering for revenge, the Soviet Empire invades America. New York City and Washington are overwhelmed. Allied forces, unprepared for the surprise attack, are decimated. Will freedom be crushed under the heels of Communist aggression? Gamers around the world will decide this fall with the release of Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™2, the sequel to the three-million-selling, award-winning real-time strategy game Command & Conquer Red Alert. Westwood Studios announced Red Alert 2 today at a press event in San Francisco. Red Alert 2 will be available for Windows® 95 and 98.

Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 brings players back to the alternate universe of Red Alert with an onslaught of new units, tactics and strategies. As in the original, gamers can choose to lead Soviet or Allied forces. Soviet commanders will invade North America and try to claim it for mother Russia. Allied commanders will fight to push back the invaders and save liberty. Both sides are well-armed with conventional weapons and experimental technology. The Soviets can engage in psychic warfare, wield nuclear weapons and fry all they survey with Tesla technology. Allied forces can teleport with chrono technology, conduct covert operations with the help of gap generators, and rain down lightening bolts through weather control. Supporting these high-powered, advanced weapons are massive conventional forces, including armies, air power and navies. The war rages across recognizable American cities, including Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York City, the Florida Keys, Pearl Harbor, even Texas.

The war will then spread to Mexico, Germany, France and, of course, Siberia. Says Executive Producer Mark Skaggs: "Red Alert 2, like the original, will be fast, furious and full of attitude - all without sacrificing deep, strategic gameplay. We want gamers to be constantly amazed at some of the wild weapons and tactics they can use." Red Alert 2 will feature enhanced Local Area Network and Internet play. Players can engage in fierce combat over a LAN and battle via the Internet and Westwood Online. A built-in worldwide ranking system allows players to track their victories and defeats against other Internet gamers. The Worldwide Domination mode let's players compete in an ongoing war for global control. The original Red Alert was released in 1996 and went on to sell more than 3 million copies. The game continues to be incredibly popular. More than 140,000 games of Red Alert are played every month on Westwood Online, Westwood's free multiplayer.
