DARK FORCES RISING  ...written by Dark Scorpion

Chapter 1

Inevitability (Three Months Ago)

Through the floor of his Antartican Command Centre, in his private command chamber, Yuri could feel a rumbling and knew what it meant - it was over. Observing the battle from his personal command console, his fears were confirmed when a tetrad of Allied Battle Fortresses with their Prism Tank support groups breached his remaining defenses. Despite knowing the attempt was less than useless, he commanded his remaining Lasher and Initiate Groups to destroy them - as they closed within maximum firing distance, bolts of blue/white lightning began to rain from the Fortresses gun ports onto his tanks. Turrets melted into molten mounds of metal and the reflection shots courteously reduced his infantry to piles of smoking ash. While the tanks where immobile and weaponless, another lightning volley caused the Lashers internal fuel tanks to rupture and explode.

Well, that's what I get for letting my genius military advisors build those tanks armor from scrap metal - at least they're dead, but it's of little consolation to my plans.

The battle had gone poorly from the start, and as it drew on, it became apparent that the famous (or infamous depending on your point of view) Allied Commander was directing the battle personally.

At least it took their best to beat me, Yuri reflected, but if they hadn't acquired that Soviet technology…

After reactivating the abandoned Soviet base, the Allies had Chrono-shifted their forces and an MCV to the mainland and built up their own base. Despite the near constant assaults, Yuri's forces couldn't penetrate the Grand Cannon Perimeter and then came the attacks - waves of Robot Tanks, several score in number each, came thundering through his bases. They single-mindedly sought out both Construction Yards, then every structure that could create psychic items and when that was done, they went for the Dominator. With that gone, hundreds of Soviet Terror Drones had crawled over the remnants of his war machine and again sought out every psychic item - Masterminds shattered into expensive scrap and his clones had been turned into wet red puddles. Although the Gattling Cannons had eliminated a lot of them, they simply couldn't cope with the sheer numbers. Then came the Tesla Fortresses, the bullets from the Gattlings just bounced off their armored sides while those infernal Prism Tanks blasted the cannons themselves from their housings rendering them inert. Combine that with the continual lightning storms and nuclear strikes, it was obvious as to how he eventually lost the battle…
A hailstorm of concrete pebbles falling from the roof of his command chamber snapped him from his musings - as did the IFV with elite stripes painted on its chassis driving up to the Command Centers main entrance. Realizing that it was time, he turned to a viewscreen and thumbed it on to bring up another black screen.

"Commander, initiate the Omega Protocol and direct my scientists to begin work on… those special projects. You are hereby granted command of all my remaining forces."
"It will be done, my master." Sounded from the speakers aside the screen.

Yuri then turned to the two elite guards standing behind him,
"Get into the pod, live on and safeguard the commander"
The Initiates saluted him and left wordlessly.

Driving up to the base of the Yuri's Command Tower, Tanya was seething with thoughts of vengeance at the acts Yuri had performed. The IFV started to slow and before it had even stopped, Tanya jumped out and ran into the tower when she saw a rocket burst from the top of the tower and away from battle.
"No…" Tanya uttered to herself. She then ran into the Tower hoping against hope that Yuri was still there.

Yuri was standing in front of the viewscreen when a crash of splintering timber sounded behind him.
"Welcome Tanya" he spoke without turning, "I've been looking forward to seeing you".
"Yeah, well keep looking forward" Tanya said with rising anger as she rammed the butt of the gun into Yuri's neck, rendering him unconscious.

Two GI's marched in behind her, M60's raised - then lowered when they saw there was no threat.
Turning to the GI's, Tanya motioned to Yuri,
"Have his cybernetic technology disabled and then take him to HQ"
The GI's then dragged him out leaving Tanya alone. After surveying the area and seeing nothing of interest, she left to order the Towers destruction by the Prism Tanks outside.
As she left, the viewscreen began to change. A red shape began to glow with increasing intensity - taking the form of a sharply angled helmet visor…
