Chapter
1
0800 Hours...all is dark.
The small GDI assault team seemed as oblivious to the danger ahead as they were
oblivious to the terrain that lay in an un-assuming dark blanket across western
Poland. "heay, CAP!" Lt. Dezman shouted, but the call was muffled by the noise of the transport
helicopters. Getting off his seat and taking a few awkward steps forward towards the cockpit, Captain Dantez came into view. Their was no light in the little cabin, as it would be picked up by Nod radar.
"eh cap'n, so whats the mission overview?"
"We're setting down near this river here," replied dantez, pointing to a spot on a map, illuminated by a
peblight.
"In order to avoid Nod detection, from there we'll use inflatable rafts to pull close to the powerplant. We
separate into two groups. Group A, call sign delta, will eliminate the power plant. Group B will covertly destroy several layers of gates. I will head group A, you will head group B,
Lieutenant. Once the gates are down, and the power's off, armor will roll through. Your group will support the
armor, and fight your way to the middle where you'll meet us. When the base is secure, orcas and transport helicopters will drop an engineering team in the square middle of the
base, and the aircraft that brought the engineers in is our evac."
"hmm, sounds simple enough, and to think I wasted a bowl of Wheaties on my body for this mission," retorted Dezman with a smirk. The Captain walked to a port and peered through a hatch, he caught the first glimpse of
daylight and his fingers caught the cocking bolt on his pulse rifle. Other soldiers couldn't wait for their tour of duties to end, but Capt. Dezman just wanted more. He had already turned down several promotions just so he could fight in the field.
"Why do the allies always attack at dawn?" he shot off within the ears of his troops, who never answered. But it was true, even in the great World War 2 the allies attacked Europe at Dawn....the Dawn of June 6th. TODAY! This sparked a fire in his blood, and with that fire he hurled the words "GEAR UP TEAM, Ten minutes! Every
squad leader carries an eva and direct link radio!"
The scene shifted from hurried troops loading packs and cocking weapons to the pilots, sweaty browed, setting the helicopter down in a tight spot between the Insertion river and a polish mountain range. The pilot leaned in his seat for a minute, relaxing in the pleasant sound of troops disembarking. "10 RAFTS, get them up now, Tango squad follows on land half a mile behind and gives rear support, C'mon, MOVE MOVE MOVE" The soldiers pumped all their energy into building the small rafts, although the would rather be pumping Nod troops with plasma heated lead. Soon all the squads had assembled in the rafts, and awaited the Captains word to begin secondary insertion.
Dantez took his place in the middle raft, paused and watched the transport helicopter fall lift off, preparing to fall back to it's primary LZ. "HUT, oars at a ready, all sqauds move out." The river was relatively calm, and the trip was un-eventful, except for the occasional
position check by one of the squad leaders. A simplistic silence, birds.....water running, was broken in 2 by the Captain, issuing landing orders, as the Powerplant ahd just come into sight. Group A
consisting of 45 men, in 5 squads crept out of the rafts, which the last man out sunk by pulling a weight cord on each of the rafts.
Group B continued on farther down to their engagement point. There was a lone Nod soldier
guarding the power plant. A reckless GDI private tried to shoot at him from his crouched position, missed, and compromised the mission. But it was not to be, the
Guard running for help was picked off by Dantez, who's powerful body reared up like a cobra, above the 2 foot beach ridge, knees implanted in the dirt,
squeezing the cold steel trigger, with a second to aim, he sent a single peace of hot lead straight for the
guards neck, the unarmored section of his body. The Nod brother soon became a brother to the dirt, leaving only his
armor to remain. The private knew what he had just done, and was saved by his commander. He did not need a glance to remind him he would be scolded after evac. Group A rose and rushed in crouches towards the
powerplant...
