The
thumping noise grew louder and closer. All in line, sounding like one
large being. The buildings seem to shake under the powerful feet of the
Soviet Conscripts. Behind them, the rumbling of the Telsa Tanks brought
even greater fear to my ears.
Ever since we lost our foothold in New Orleans, the Mississippi River
was slowly falling. We severally needed that river. Without it, we had a
hard time supplying Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis Tennessee, St. Louis
Missouri, and Duluth, Minnesota, crucial strong points that the Soviets
were trying to over throw. If we lost the battle here, we could almost
consider the US part of Russia.
"I have my aim" my radio interrupted me in my thoughts.
"Just tell me when to shoot". Looking out of the Holiday Inn,
I could see the troops walking below. "FIRE!" I blurred over
my radio. My group of twenty soldiers fired on the helpless Conscripts.
They scrambled off, hiding behind garbage cans and anything else they
could use as a shield. Being as husky as they were, you could easily
shoot a shoulder and make them fall down, then take a shot to the head.
My force easily took down the Conscripts, till the Telsa stepped in. I
remember seeing the turret slowly turn, then the coils around it turned
a bright color. Launch how a bolt that nearly blinded me, I heard
silence, then the fire start. The small 7-11 caught on fire, releasing
four of my troops on to the street. I watched as the tanks rolled over
them. We all turned our attention towards the Teslas and opened fire.
Smoke slow rose from one of the metal mass. About twenty seconds later,
it ignited into a fireball and turned, crashing into a building. The
building fell and landed on one tank, and stopped the others from
advancing. Seeing my opportunity, I ordered everyone out of the
buildings and onto the street. There, we took advantage of the tanks.
Destroying each one. The skirmish lasted only about fifteen minutes.
Seven dead on my side, and total wipe out of the Soviets on the street.
I knew the Soviets would send a larger force, but I didn't know when,
until about ten minutes after the battle.
The
sun, warming me, was blocked out and even grew quiet. I remember a
humming noise. Looking up, I saw the Soviet's air force. The three
blimps slowly dropped in altitude. I knew there was little I could do,
we had no anti-air, so I did the next best thing. "RUN!"
Everyone looked at me is if I was crazy, until they saw why I said it. I
saw their face go from a pink (from the sunburns) to a ghost white. We
all took of running. "This is MS Guard, we need reinforcements,
Soviet battle blimps spotted". "This is the Rocket Gun, were
moving in on the blimps".
Rocket Gun was an elite group of Rocket Tears, everyone wanted to be one
of them. The lifted into the air, and sped around the air ships. One of
them had a bayonet on the end of his gun and sliced through the material
covering the ship. It slowly fell, crashing into a gas station and
igniting a whole block about two streets down from us. All the smoke
clouded the sky, not letting us see the fierce battle. A "pfft"
noise ripped through the air, another blimp fell. This time crashing
into a lake. It sunk under the water, taking everyone. The smoke cleared
and I could see the Rocketeers flying around the last Kirov Airship.
They all fired the rockets into it. It made a large explosion. Watching
the fire drop out of the sky, a shiny object flew towards me. It had a
strange twist to it. Moving in front of the sun, I held my hand up to
observe the object without the glare. I could just make it out, a piece
of metal. It came closer and closer, finally resting in my hand. I
looked at it as blood rushed out from my hand, the Soviet star, half
burnt. Pulling it out, I stuck it in one of my pockets, as a token, and
covered my hand. I looked at the sun as it started going behind a
mountain. It gave the appearance that the sky was on fire. I fell back,
landing on my stomach. I had just notice the blood on the ground and all
over my uniform where I had been shot. "Friggin' Conscripts" I
said as I closed my eyes, knowing that I had helped stop the Soviets
from taking my home, my family, my friends, my country....
