Lion is retiring...farewell to all!

After more than a decade of being a part of the Command & Conquer community and webmastering the DEN websites, I have decided to hang up my webmaster title. I don't have a big speech planned, other than to say I've had a super great time over the years. There have been some ups and downs in the C&C community, but for the most part, all has been good.

I want to say thank you to all who have visited and supported the DEN websites. I've had much help from C&C fans over the years. Thanks to Westwood Studios and now Electronic Arts for the C&C games. I've enjoyed playing them. Goodbye and best wishes to all.

wBc RA3 Clan Tournament

On February 27th, 2010 wBc RA3 Clan will be hosting a 2vs2 tournament for Red Alert 3. First place earns $200, and second place $100.

APOC Interview

German C&C website CNC-Welton.de conducted and interview with our community leader APOC recently. Here's a snip.

Question: Do you enjoy your work? Tell us something about what you are doing at EA.

APOC: I have one of the most unique jobs in the world, without a doubt. Right now, today, what am I doing? Responding to comments on the message boards, making up for posting a mistaken tropical Polynesia C&C 4 screenshot I snapped and posted, explaining why we can't fix the outlines on our C&C 4 units (which I personally like), prepping the strategic community plan to launch for C&C 4, determining what will go on our website next week, taking 6 C&C 4 screenshots, working on the next unit profile (I make all the videos in world-builder BTW), giving 2POC some orders, haha, just had a chat with our volunteer team, sending out some over-due prizes, and gathering some historical data on BFME and C&C online user metrics.yes, all in a day's work.

Regarding the future of C&C and C&C support:

APOC: As I mentioned about JVC and the C&C Gods, right now, I can't comment deeply about the future of C&C as we are laser focused on Command & Conquer 4, but as JVC mentioned in his interview with GamaSutra recently, there absolutely is a future, and I think our development team will really be taking some time to develop that deeply, especially, and I mean this considerably, with our community and hardcore fans at the forefront.

For C&C 4 support, our dev team has improved considerably since the days of BFME 1, and for C&C 4, we will be addressing the most critical issues in as much as we humanly can, as always. I've made the mistake in the past of making unfulfilled promises (every Community Manager has his/her moments), so for this interview, I'm staying in cold water, and will just say, reinforcements will be circling the battlefield.

APOC Comments on the Future of the C&C Franchise

On the official C&C forums, our community leader APOC posted a brief comment on the future of Command & Conquer.

C&C 4 is the end of the current Tiberium storyline, but there is a future for the Command & Conquer franchise as our new RTS leader, Jon Van Caneghem has alluded to in his interview at GamaSutra not that long ago. I will say, many of the preconceived notions from that interview are very far fetched.

I can tell you with 100% certainty, involving you, the community, in the future of the C&C franchise, will be critical and important to us.

For now, our dev team is focused on completing a great game that will be C&C 4. Just IMO, I think it may surprise.

New Version of RA: A Path Beyond Released

A new version of the stand-alone mod Red Alert: A Path Beyond has been released. Actually the new version (V1.3.0) has already been updated with a patch (V1.3.1). Also want to mention that the APB mod team is currently looking to pick up a texture artist, familiar with 3ds Max and preparing or altering unwraps if possible. W3D experience a plus but not required.

New RA3 Featured Map!

Been a while since I posted new maps...got a tad behind due to work and then the holiday season. Will be getting some new ones out over the next few weeks. The latest featured map for Red Alert 3 is by Clone11b, and titled 'Moscow Madness'. Well designed and fun 4-player map. Check out a screenshot below, then head HERE for more info and the download.

Community News Bits n Pieces

-CNCNZ posted their last Roundtable for the year ending 2009. Topics in December's Roundtable included C&C 4 Storyline Expectations, Main Concerns with C&C 4, An MMO Future, and Ideas for the New Dev Team. I participated in the roundtable along with other people from the C&C community. You can read the roundtable HERE.

-The Renegade X mod team posted up a year-end update that includes a new wallpaper, info on goodies to come in future updates, and word about a new version coming on Sunday, January 10th, 2010. Check HERE for the full update.

-CNC Sector is a new website that was recently launched. It was formerly known as Command & Patch, and is still owned and operated by the same webmaster, Nathancnc.
