Red Alert2 Modem Play

You can play modem to modem in RA2, here is how:

1. In order to play Modem-to-Modem both computers must have the IPX protocol installed.

2. You can check if you have the IPX protocol by right clicking on the Network Neighborhood icon on your Desktop and selecting Properties. Look to see if you have IPX/SPX compatible Protocol.

If you do not have IPX, click on the Add button then double click on Protocol. In the window Select Network Protocol, under Manufacturers select Microsoft and in the right under Network protocols select IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol then click on OK and follow the instructions.

(NOTE: If IPX is installed for any other adapter, these instructions will not work. IPX must only be added for the "Dialup Adapter")

3. In the Networking Properties click on the "Access Control" tab. User level access must be set to "Share Level Access Control".

4. Once both computers have the IPX protocol, one of the computers has to install the Dial-up Server. Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel, then select the icon Add/Remove Programs. Select the tab labeled Windows Setup, and double click on the Communications icon. Do not check the check box. Check the option Dial-Up Server and click on OK. Follow the on screen instructions.

5. Now that you have the Dial-Up Server installed you need to configure it. Double click on My Computer and then double click on the icon Dial-Up Networking. (WinME must click "Start" - "Settings" - "Dialup Networking") Go to the menu Connections and then to the option Dial-Up Server. A new window will appear where you can setup the Dial-Up Server options. Check the box Allow caller option and then click OK.

6. Now you are ready to receive the call from your friend. Your friend should setup a Dial Up connection to your phone number and call you. Your friend should follow the instructions below:

Click on the My Computer icon on the desktop, then in Dial Up Networking and use the Make New Connection Wizard. Follow the on screen instructions. Now your friend can call using the new connection created by Add Connection Wizard. If everything is right the computer with the Dial-Up server will answer the call and establish the connection.

7. Now both of you can load the game and play 2 player Network games as if you were in a local area network.

NOTE: Do not try to use Internet in this mode since you are not playing over Westwood Online.
