No Yuri...No
Yuri...!! NO YURI !!!!!
These are the words of your average game-host in Yuri's Revenge
Online. When I first started playing Yuri's Revenge on the net,
I discovered that almost every host would scream those two words
at you in the game room, before booting you. I tried reasoning,
insulting, begging and trying to bait them into allowing me to
be Yuri by questioning their testicular fortitude. However, most
hosts will not allow their opponents to play as Yuri, the
reason...... Yuri's strategic approach to battle is the one
thing that can disrupt the usual no-brainer tactics that have
been used online for the sole purpose of bragging rights. People
would use the usual engineer rush, or dolphin flooding or prism
flooding (flooding meaning building a hell of a lot) Black Eagle
flooding, filling battle-fortress' with guardian GI's....and
flooding the map with those too, training countless guardian GI
"walls" , just so they could clock up their kill meter
and brag in the lobbies.....
Not much fun in that though is there ? if you say "yes its
great fun to utilize the no-brainer tactics" .... your
probably not a fun person.... and you probably haven't gotten up
from that chair in the last 6 hours except to
get more nachos'.....
With the arrival of Yuri, those tactics were thrown out the
window. Solution to engineer rush, one single Yuri clone near
your MCV or War Factory. Solution to prism and fortress
flooding, masterminds. Solution to Eagles, gattling tanks (the
most effective of all anti air units. The solution to Guardian
GI walls, Virus'.
Yuri offers a bit of variety to the (until recently) primitive
and rough approch to winning fights..... it used to be a simple
case of "ugh ugh... me have more tanks than you...ugh ugh
me win.... ugh". Now the cowards are showing their true
colors... someone who dis-allows Yuri is obviously one of those
"cavemen" players who can't win a proper
fight.
Lets have a look at some of the usual reasons for dis-allowing
Yuri...
(1)
"he's cheap" when asked to explain this a lot of
people couldn't respond..... they didn't even know why they were
dis-allowing Yuri. If their authority was questioned they'd say
"he's cheap" again and boot you. Those who had some
clue responded with "mind control is gay" Considering
2 or 3 harriers can take out a mastermind should over come this
dis-allowing reason, Yuri Clones have no armor at all.... that
shouldn't cause much trouble and the range of the Psychic Tower
ain't the greatest, a prism's is longer. For the Soviets, use
V-3's on Towers and Terror Drones on masterminds and
clones...... However its up to the Yuri player to make it harder
to do this.
(2) "Boomer's are gay" Having thought about
this, I decided anyone who said this should be tied to the back
of a train by their ears. Granted, you can access the Boomer
quite fast (deploy MCV, Bio reactor, Slave Miner, Sub Pen+Radar)
BUT CONSIDER THIS..... Boomer subs cost $2000 a piece and they
take a while to build.... in this time it should be no problem
(and cheap) to simply build some gattling tanks or cannons /
flak tracks or cannons / patriots or IFVs / or even flak
troopers/ rocketeers to defend against boomer missiles..... a
retarded monkey with a blindfold and a nail through it's head
can defend itself from boomers. With this in mind, its obvious
that there IS NO SUCH THING AS A BOOMER RUSH.
(3) "he's gay" I HAVE encountered this reason
and to anyone who said that... your an idiot and you don't know
what your talking about.
How about a run-down of the most commonly used Yuri units....
(1) Lasher Light Tank: its called LIGHT for a reason, the
weakest of the three grunt tanks, these don't pose much of a
threat unless in numbers. The key is to simply over power them!
(2) Gattling Tanks: Their armor might as well be
cardboard.
(3) Magnetrons: their weakness is infantry, they have no
weapon for infantry killing besides simply knocking them down
one by one
(4) Mastermind: Weakness... terror drones... and the
brainwave overload
(5) Discs: ANY anti air, discs armor is only fair... not
too light, but not good either.
(6) Boomers: the cure for boomer missiles is AA
obviously... don't be stupid and leave your base open for a
boomer assault or you deserve to loose. for boomers
themselves.... the boomer torpedoes are quite weak, they can be
overpowered easily
(7) Chaos drones: no-one uses them, and for a good
reason.
(8) Yuri Prime: ANYTHING! the man is a complete pushover
As far as firefights go, Yuri would almost always come out with
the short end of the proverbial stick, Yuri's strength lies in
annoying tactics, like a combo of magnetrons and a mastermind or
two. its quite easy to send your opponent into a fluster with
these kind of tactics and then over-run the enemy base, that's
how to acquire wins with Yuri. People who use Yuri for brute
strength fights aren't the brightest.
Considering all this, the whole "NO YURI !!!!!!" thing
is quite sad.... if played correctly, Yuri dosn't pose as bad a
threat to the precious "ugh ugh, me not use brain"
tactics, and the dreaded "boomer rush" is simply crap,
boomers are quite useless if there's a few AA guns scattered
around.
All in all, Yuri is a fine team to choose, and host should quit
being chicken and just let people play as him, its not their
decision who the opponents are.
Yours in
gaming,
Bubba
